Mini-memory and mini-domino

Look very carefully at the picture below … now look away! (No peeking!) Do you remember where all the different bumblebees were? Where were the polka dot bees? And what about the stripy ones?

Try testing your memory by playing the mini-memory game…

• Carefully cut out the squares on the activity sheet (stick them onto some card for extra sturdiness, if you like).
• Give them a shuffle.
• Place all the cards with the bees facing up on a flat surface and give them all a good look.
• Now turn all the cards face down. Choosing two cards at a time, can you find a matching pair of bumblebees? Keep searching for pairs until you’ve found them all – how long does it take you to find a match?
You can also play this memory game with a friend – just take it in turns to find matching pairs of bees. The player with the most pairs at the end wins!

Just like you did before, cut out all the rectangular dominoes on the activity sheet and give them a shuffle. Now, by matching ladybirds with ladybirds, caterpillars with caterpillars, and bumblebees with bumblebees, try to build up a chain of dominoes – the longer the chain, the better!

If you’d like to play with a friend, just split the dominoes equally between you at the start, and take it in turns to add a domino to the chain. If one of you doesn’t have any dominoes which match the start or end of the chain, the turn moves to the next player… The first player to get rid of all of their domino cards wins!
